Contemporary Management of Acromegaly: A Practical Approach

Abstract Acromegaly is a rare, chronic disease that is, in more than 95% of cases, caused by growth hormone (GH)-secreting pituitary adenoma. Overproduction insulin-like factor-1 (IGF-1) due to GH hypersecretion leads various clinical features characterized somatic overgrowth, physical changes, multiple comorbidities, and increased mortality. The average age at diagnosis 40 50 years, with no sex predilection. mean delay 4.5 5 years the insidious onset slow progression disease. confirmed levels IGF-1 insuppressible measured an oral glucose tolerance test. Treatment aimed normalizing GH/IGF-1 controlling tumor volume. Medical treatment radiotherapy can be utilized when surgery fails control hypersecretion. This article aims review recent updates acromegaly raise awareness about presentation management.
